| Resumo | The analysis of the structural characteristics of the landscape, the vegetation cover, topography, drainage and pedology, promotes rational use of any determined geographic space. In this context, techniques of geoprocessing of data have been used in the studies of the terrestrial resources, with special attention to monitoring the impacts of human activities on the environment. The objective of the present study was to characterize the physical structure of the landscape, the natural potential and the predisposition to the environmental risks associated with agricultural land use in the City of Maravilha-SC. Three scenarios were analyzed (1988, 1998 and 2008), whose data were integrated through Geographical Information Systems (GIS). In this selected time period, significant land use modifications were observed. In the study area it appears that land use is related to land structure which in turn is limited by natural surfaces plain which are either flat or undulating, the later having a profound impact. The biggest land use class observed was agriculture, occupying an average of 72, 4% of the total area of the city throughout the period from 1988 to 2008 and includes areas occupied with annual crops and crop areas without coverage or exposed soil. The observed spatial changes concur with the modifications of land use and vegetational cover due to human intervention pressure. | |||
